“How to Write Effectively (During a Slow Apocalypse)”

Album Art by Mike King

Released July 25th, 2025

The 2nd full length LP by Kahiem Rivera continues his trend of introspective, stream of consciousness rapping. The bulk of the songs are produced by and/or with Vesa Beats and feature contributions from Razor Braids, Alden Hellmuth, Syl Dubenion, Rich Robbins and NYCL KAI. The lyrics are mostly a freeform patchwork of extraneous thoughts written in quick bursts: 8 bars in between subway transfers, a quick 16 during a smoke break or a single phrase jotted quickly at a red light. There are literary references, battle rap punchlines and platitudes about self care stacked on top of each other. It’s a COVID era timestamp of anxiety reflections mixed with exercises in playfulness. It’s some of the most unserious work he’s ever written.

“Bummer Boy”

Album Art by Mike King

Released April 24th, 2020

On his first full length album, rapper/producer Kahiem Rivera dives further into his own psyche through some of his most collaborative songs to date. It’s a mostly downtempo affair, with some hints of grime, dancehall and trap, all fluidly connected through Kahiem’s low, sometimes raspy voice. The record deals with themes of anxiety, relationships & depression, but there’s a self awareness and quite a few winks littered throughout that keep it from being weighty or preachy.

“Rap Music To Take a Bath To”

Art by Mike King

Released February 3rd, 2023

2 years to the day after his last release, Kahiem Rivera brings a wintry EP of unreleased deep cuts and B-Sides to tide us over until the next big project. Every song on RMTTABT was recorded at vastly different times during the past 5 years, but all were made during moments of deep introversion. Each song has something distinct to say, sonically and lyrically. The through line is a darkly textured, synth heavy affair of down temp rap perfect for a warm bath or even just a long & gray bus ride. Headphones are not required, but very much encouraged.

“Cement, Sand / The Bag (Single)”

Art and Design by Hannah Hillier

Released February 5th, 2021

After a year of quarantine, isolation, protest, and a lot of work, Kahiem Rivera is finally ready to release new music again. Funded by a grant awarded by Joyful Noise Records’ new “Church of Noise” program, “Cement, Sand/The Bag” is a double single that will be released digitally and physically via a limited 7” vinyl pressing. These songs spawned from a series of remote collaborations created during the spring/summer of 2020. Expanding on the process that brought his debut album “Bummer Boy” to life, Kahiem sought to create music that felt more live and communal, during a time in which such things were impossible. On these tracks, collaborators shared different live musical elements over email and Kahiem sifted through them to create something that felt cohesive and adventurous. The first track “Cement, Sand” features layers of saxophone, synth and piano from Grant Zubritsky and K. Marie Kim, a power couple who have played with the likes of Dua Lipa, Chet Faker, and Mitski (to name a few). It also features beautiful, almost operatic vocals from Hollye Bynum, head of post punk Brooklyn band Razor Braids. It’s a soaring journey of a track detailing all the different inner monologues that happen while meeting up with an ex. “The Bag”, on the other hand, is a druggy/laid back trap anthem (with more layers of sax) about finding love with a stranger through late night debauchery. They’re two sides of the same coin...that coin being Pre-COVID tales of meeting lovers outside of your pod.

  1. Cement, Sand
    Produced by Kahiem Rivera
Saxophone, Additional Synth and Arrangement by Grant Zubritsky
    Piano by K. Marie Kim
    Vocals by Hollye Bynum

  2. The Bag

Additional Synth, Arrangement by Kahiem Rivera
    Additional Synth by Roarke Menzies
    Saxophone by Grant Zubritsky

“Be Quiet, Pt. 2 - EP”

Cover Photo by Alice Plati

Released July 24th, 2018

Brooklyn-born rapper Kahiem Rivera returns with the second installment of his "Be Quiet" EP series. Recorded during many months of bedroom sessions in the early part of 2017, Kahiem dives deeper into his own psyche with stark, introverted lyrics and a restrained but effectual delivery. Handling the bulk of production himself, we hear him explore issues of identity, race, love, and sex with singular intimacy. The sound is bigger here – more synth heavy than its predecessor — yet it still manages to maintain the same wounded honesty found on that first outing. As with his debut, Kahiem was stuck at home with a broken leg after a nearly fatal bicycle accident when he wrote and recorded these songs. On "Be Quiet, Pt. 1", Kahiem began to open up about his depression, and subsequent self medication. Here, he attempts to make peace with those aspects of himself, and climb out of that rut.

Tracklist:

  1. Stubborn

  2. Pareidolia (feat. Chazz Giovanni*)
    Produced by Julien Melendez

  3. Cranes

  4. Shackles (feat. Tara Amber)

  5. Why Did You Do That?

“Be Quiet, Pt. 1 - EP”

Released March 27th, 2018

The debut EP from Kahiem Rivera was recorded at home during a life halting injury in which he had very little to do but sit, reflect and write. It’s a brief and haunting affair, giving a glimpse of an artist who has a lot to say but is still figuring out how best to say it.
